International Study Group on the relations between History and Pedagogy of Mathematics

History and Pedagogy of Mathematics International Study Group is an Affiliate of ICMI. Hence it is a tradition to organise a conference that is a satellite meeting to the International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME), organised by ICMI every four years. The next HPM satellite meeting will be held in Sydney, Australia, at the Kensington campus of the University of New South Wales, 1st – 5th July 2024 (International Study Group on the relations between History and Pedagogy of Mathematics | Upcoming meeting (uu.nl))

By combining the history of mathematics with the teaching and learning of mathematics, HPM connects the past and the future of mathematics. Therefore, the group aims to stress the conception of mathematics as a living science, a science with a long history, a vivid present, and an as yet unforeseen future.

Local organisers for this conference are Jim Pettigrew, Merryn Horrocks and Donald Shearman.

Submissions are due 15 March 2024 (extended deadline). To submit a proposal, download and fill in the Updated Activity Application Form (word versionpdf version).

For more information see the second announcement (pdf) [first announcement (pdf)].

General inquiries about the conference and its themes can be addressed to Snezana Lawrence.

Inquiries about the conference venue and general on-site organization can be addressed to Jim Pettigrew.

International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) Round Table

The International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) is pleased to announce its 2024 Roundtable Conference that will take place on July 2-5, 2024 in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand just before the 15th International Congress of Mathematics Education (ICME-15; July 7-14, 2024 in Sydney, Australia).

IASE Roundtables are working conferences with the aim to bring 40-50 educators from around the world to share their passion, expertise and experiences in statistics and data science education. We invite you to participate in this roundtable conference and help us to advance statistics and data science education. The four-day Roundtable will focus on a unique theme: “Connecting data and people for inclusive statistics and data science education”. Given that the creation and use of data is a human-driven process, this conference aims to discuss the inclusivity of the teaching and learning experiences for both students and teachers within statistics and data science. Please see conference website for calls for proposals and specific dates.

Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA)

MERGA exists to provide a range of forums for raising important issues in mathematics education and sharing research findings that speak to how these issues might be effectively addressed. Through two peer-reviewed journals – Mathematics Education Research Journal and Mathematics Teacher Education and Development – and an engaging annual Conference, we promote, share and disseminate rigorous research in mathematics education across Australasia. Through our awards, we recognise and celebrate our members’ achievements. MERGA maintains productive relationships with affiliate organisations who share our interest in mathematics, mathematics education and mathematics education research. Together, we seek ways to influence policy makers to improve both the preparation of teachers of mathematics and mathematics teaching and learning.

Date: 30 June – 4 July, 2024, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia

The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME)

The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME), is a group of researchers, established in 1976 at the International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME3) in Karlsruhe, Germany. The aims of the organization are:
*to promote international contacts and exchange of scientific information in the field of mathematical education;
*to promote and stimulate interdisciplinary research in the aforesaid area; and
*to further a deeper and more correct understanding of the psychology and other aspects of teaching and learning mathematics and the implications thereof.

IGPME welcomes all who are interested in how students learn mathematics, how teachers teach mathematics, and how mathematicians, teachers and students do mathematics. IGPME gathers once a year to share our work and interests at our Annual PME Conference. The next Annual Conference, PME47, will be held in New Zealand, from 17th to 21st July 2024. The theme of the conference is “Rethinking mathematics education together”. Please visit the conference website for more information https://events.massey.ac.nz/pme-47-conference/
